ABOUT SEATAC

SEATAC supports growth of the ocean economy by providing research services to local businesses that work in the ocean technology sector.

In 2019, Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) was awarded federal funding for Nova Scotia’s first Technology Access Centre (TAC). SEATAC received additional industry funding from Thales Canada and the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE).

Through for-fee, easy access to NSCC’s research expertise and technology, SEATAC helps businesses be more productive and competitive. SEATAC's team is focused on addressing customers’ needs and collaborates with NSCC Applied Research and other NSCC departments to offer a wide array of services and expertise.

Equipment Function
Computer Numerical Control Machining Centre The CNC machining center (or CNC turning centre) is an advanced manufacturing machine tool that can perform drilling, milling, and lathe operations with high precision, high quality, and high surface finish.
Robotic Arm Assembles parts accurately, with repeatability functionality.
Laser sintering Metal 3D Printer The Renishaw AM250 3D Metal Printer can be used for prototyping of complex metal parts and components from 3D CAD drawings. The printer is compatible with Inconel, Stainless Steel, Cobalt Chrome, Aluminum and Titanium, with a maximum build size of 250 mm x 250 mm x 300 mm and an XY accuracy of 0.07 mm.
Fused Deposition Modeling 3D Printer This FDM 3D Printer, also known as fused filament fabrication (FFF), is an additive manufacturing process, building prototypes using a continuous, layer-by-layer, string of thermoplastic material.
Resin 3D Printer This 3D resin printer creates functional, waterproof components.
FARO® ScanArm Reverse-engineer prototypes with rapid, high-resolution, accurate 3D scans and CAD designs, expediting product development.
Sonar Generates high-resolution photos and videos of the seafloor. These techniques are used to collect marine data and create detailed maps.
Ocean Survey Instruments An array of data collecting instruments, including subsea camera systems, multi-beam echo sounders and autonomous underwater vehicles.
